If the damage is extensive and cannot be repaired with a local full circle band clamp or an electrofusion patch, two mechanical fittings can be used by cutting out the damaged pipe and using an assembly with two mechanical fittings with a properly sized and length of polyethylene pipe (or possibly another type of pipe, depending on the fittings) in the middle.
